STATE OF LIFE
painting series
State of Life is a series in which nature is approached not as a view and not as a genre landscape, but as a form of presence. The landscape becomes a state, the environment becomes an experience, and color becomes the temperature of emotion.
In this series, space ceases to be a background and becomes a living medium. The viewer is positioned not as an external observer, but as a participant inside the environment, perceiving its atmosphere and internal tensions.
The technique combines dense palette knife and brushwork with thin transparent layers close to watercolor manner. Light passing between layers of acrylic and reflecting back creates an effect of depth and air, making perception not only visual but sensorial.
Color functions as the emotional temperature of the environment. It holds attention, evokes a state, and reveals the inner life of space: the fragility of dawn, the weight of a rain sky, the cool vibration of winter silence, the warm density of grass.
The State of Life series continues the artist’s symbolic exploration of light. Light ceases to be a sign or code and becomes a medium — a phenomenon through which space declares presence.
Medium & Technique
Acrylic on canvas. Palette knife + brushwork with transparent layered glazing.
Period & Context
2022–2025, Alberta (Rocky Mountains & Foothills region), created in direct contact with natural environments and seasonal atmospheric conditions.
Positioning
Contemporary lyrical expressionism with environmental sensitivity and perceptual focus.
